The purpose of the Interview Committee is to interview harp technicians and collectors in order to document "harp lore" and information about instruments from their observations.

Completed interviews are archived by the society.  Suggested interview procedures and questions are posted below.  Recordings of the interview, and any transcripts made of those recordings, should be sent to the committee chair.

Procedural Method for the Interviewer:
·    use a high-quality recording device
·    keep each session to a maximum of 1 1/2 hours
·    listen attentively and try not to interrupt
·    questions should be short and clear
·    using open ended “how” or “why” questions rather than “yes or no” questions
·    use the phrases “tell me about…” or “describe…”
·    be sympathetic but non-committal; try to clarify information without expressing opinion
·    have paper and pencil ready
·    prepare to develop additional questions DURING the interview
·    clearly label and date your notes or recording – submit copies or originals to the society

Possible Interview Questions:
·    What harp makers or harp makes are you familiar with?
·    When were these makers in business or these harps in particular made?
·    What do you know about the history of the maker or the design?
·    What harps do you remember as being unusual?
·    How were the harps unusual or different in their construction or decoration?
·    Were the harps marked or dated in any concealed places?
·    Were the harps sold under a name other than that of the builder?
